In June 2018, The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved a drug that will be beneficial for people who suffer from Epilepsy.
It’s a huge victory for CBD.
The recently FDA-approved Epidiolex is fabricated with purified CBd from the cannabis plant, according to an article from CNN Health. This new remedy might be effective for two rare and severe forms of epilepsy, after the government’s officials noted that some children experienced a way less seizure. This significant difference led them to approve Epidiolex, and brought the CBD to its biggest success so far.
According to CNN Health, Dr. Elizabeth Thiele, director of the pediatric epilepsy program at Massachusetts General Hospital and professor of neurology at Harvard Medical School, who was a part of the team of doctors involved in the drug’s safety and efficacy trials, said that one patient was experiencing more than 100 seizures per day, but “a week later after CBD had four seizures in one day.”
So far it’s the first FDA-approved prescription to treat seizures associated with Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome (LGS, Dravet syndrome, or tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) in patients starting one year old.
The FDA stated that “This approval serves as a reminder that advancing sound development programs that properly evaluate active ingredients contained in marijuana can lead to important medical therapies.”
It is really an amazing discovery and it shows how CBD can be used for its therapeutic effects. CBD has a potential role in easing symptoms of many health issues. Research on CBD and its benefits is still ongoing, so more therapeutic uses for this natural remedy are to be discovered. Let’s see what the future holds.
